We are the BID
The B.I.D association is governed by a Board of Directors representing commercial property owners, commercial tenants, the Town of North Hempstead and Villages, the current board of directors is dedicated to the vision to bring vibrancy and beauty to the commercial district.
The Greater Port Washington Business Improvement District (BID) Board of Directors is composed of eleven people:
- Six directors elected to represent commercial property owners
- Three directors appointed by the Town of North Hempstead.
- Two directors elected to represent commercial tenants

Our Story
Founded in 1995, the Port Washington B.I.D. has initiated long lasting improvements for the commercial district. With the support of former Nassau County Legislator Craig Johnson and former County Legislator Wayne Wink, the Greater Port Washington Business Improvement District (BID) was awarded $50,000 in funding for street-scape improvements from the Nassau County Office of Housing and Intergovernmental Affairs through the County’s Community Redevelopment program. Combined with $160,000 raised by the BID through a bond issue in 2002, many physical improvements have been made around the town. This includes all of the brick paving, tree wells, new trees and plantings, pedestrian benches and nautical-themed street signs to name a few.

NOTICE of Public Hearing for 2027 Budget.
Please take notice that pursuant to the Town Law of the State of New York, the Board of Directors of the Greater Port Washington Business Improvement District (GPWBID) will hold a public hearing on the proposed 2026 Budget for the GPWBID on Wednesday, September 8th, 2026 at 7:00pm at the meeting of the Board of Directors to be held at 350 Main Street at the Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty, Port Washington, NY 11050. All interested parties are invited to attend.

Regular meetings of the BID Board of Directors are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Meetings are held in person at 329 Main Street. We ask that anyone interested in attending to please inform Holly Byrne, Executive Director in advance to ensure sufficient seating is available for all.
