This holiday season, the Port Washington BID, Port Washington Chamber of Commerce and Landmark on Main Street are planning to bring special joy and holiday spirit to our streets. Port Holiday Magic will begin on Small Business Saturday, November 30. Everyone can enjoy a visit by Santa riding a fire engine throughout town starting at noon, courtesy of the Port Washington Fire Department.  Port Holiday Magic will continue on the following two Saturdays – December 7 is Port Giving Magic and December 14 is Port Window Magic.

Port Holiday Magic

All the magical Saturdays will include:

STORE SPECIALS FREE TROLLEY RIDES!  SHOPPERTAINMENT!  FREE PARKING ON MAIN STREET!  RADIO PW!

Look for the red bows on participating businesses! They will offer holiday specials for their customers – a discount on merchandise, services or gift cards; a gift with purchase; holiday treats; free gift wrapping; in-store entertainment, and more. A list of the current offers is below and is being updated daily on www.pwcoc.org and on the Try Port First app. Also look for postings on social media.

The Town of North Hempstead Parking District will cover the meters and suspend the on-street parking meter fees on Main Street and certain other streets starting on November 29, and continuing through January 1, 2025.

November 30 – Port Holiday Magic on Small Business Saturday. We will have all of the festivities described above and stores will kick off the season with many specials for their customers. Look for the singing Toy Soldiers! There will be strolling carolers and costumed characters who will greet shoppers. Holiday themed blowups will provide great opportunities for selfies. This day we introduce Radio PW – our own hyperlocal streaming music channel! Just click the Radio PW button on the home page of the Try Port First app to listen to holiday music and learn about all the Shoppertainment and store promotions.

December 7 – Port Holiday Giving Magic when we ask everyone to “SHOP LOCAL, GIVE LOCAL.” We encourage you to make donations to local organizations and to the “Make a Child Smile Toy, Food & Diaper Drive.”  The Landmark on Main Street gym will be the site of a nonprofit holiday festival. Be sure to stop by for great holiday entertainment, a visit with Santa and a chance to speak to the people who run many local organizations. You can also help “Stuff the Bus” (actually an ambulance) at the Landmark on Main Street parking area to donate new, unwrapped toys for less fortunate children in our community.

December 14 – Port Holiday Window Magic. Businesses throughout town are showing their holiday spirit and going all out to decorate their windows. A panel of judges will view the participating windows and cast their votes. You can vote for your favorite window, too, on the Chamber’s website, www.pwcoc.org. The trolley will have a sing-a-long and there will be a “Shop, Sip and Stroll” walk along Main Street. A singing Santa will join the stroll and some carolers will as well. The window winners will be announced at 1PM on Radio PW.  A list of all the stores in the window contest can be found below and on the Try Port First app under EVENTS.

Port Holiday Magic raises awareness of the vital role small businesses play in our community and our economy. There are so many advantages to shopping locally for the holiday season, and Port Holiday Magic will provide tons of extra reasons for you to support our local businesses that create jobs, boost the economy and preserve our neighborhoods. Shop Local on Port Holiday Magic and throughout the holiday season. Everyone benefits when we remember “BEFORE YOU CLICK AND BUY, GIVE PORT A TRY.”

Port Holiday Magic is grateful to our sponsors: Dazzling Smile Dental Group, The Greater Port Washington Business Improvement District (BID) and Precision Work Inc. Port Holiday Magic is organized by the BID, the Chamber of Commerce and Landmark on Main Street and supported by the Town of North Hempstead and the Port Washington Police District.

Each year, the Port Washington Parents’ Council conducts a holiday gift card drive to support families in need across our school district. With a goal of raising $10,000 in gift cards annually and distributing them equitably across all seven school buildings, the Parents’ Council relies on the generosity of the Port Washington community to help brighten the holiday season for as many district families as possible.

When doing your Port Holiday Magic shopping, consider getting a gift card to donate for this drive. For more information about the gift card drive, go to https://www.pwparentcouncil.org/giftcarddrive.
