To All Members of the Greater Port Washington Business Improvement District

As a waterfront community, we all know that “rising tide lifts all boats.” Let’s work together to raise the level of care of our business corridor. When each member of the business community pitches in, everyone rises up. Here’s what you can do.

Place commercial garbage out for pick up on collection days ONLY.

Curbside pick-up is on Tuesday through Saturday AM. Commercial garbage left curbside will NOT be picked up on Sunday or Monday, including any Monday holidays. You may NOT leave garbage out after Saturday morning collection.

Each property is given an allowable volume of garbage that can be removed at any given day of service based on the square footage of your property. As an example, “a small business establishment i.e. real estate office, barber shop, stationary store the contractor will collect no more than two(2) thirty (30) gallon cans or equivalent of acceptable waste, within no more than 50 lbs each.”

Please be aware that any violations can result in your business being ticketed and fined by the Town of North Hempstead.

Keep your sidewalks clean.

You are responsible to sweep, pick up litter AND keep the sidewalk weed free in the area in front of your business. If you are on a corner, you are also responsible for the area on the side of your building. This applies to snow and ice removal as well.

Black Litter Receptacles are NOT for residential or commercial garbage.

Do not leave garbage from your business in these receptacles. They are intended for foot traffic use only. Please alert any residence in a multi-use building of this violation. You may be fined for misuse.

Curbside requirements

All commercial garbage must be properly packaged before being placed curbside, this includes cardboard boxes which must be flattened and tied.

Let’s work together to make Main Street a welcoming commercial district.
