Flowers Brighten Port Washington Streets
A sure sign that summer has arrived is the display of hanging baskets along Main Street and Port Boulevard in addition to the planting of the beds at the LIRR station. Each year the Port Washington BID sponsors these beautification projects in concert with the Town of North Hempstead. This season faced delays with the restrictions to workers due to the mandated shut down.
“Getting the hanging flower baskets up is just the first step,” says Holly Byrne, Executive Director of the Port Washington BID. “But they only continue to brighten the streets with regular maintenance, which is done several times each week through the course of the summer by the dedicated crew from the Town of North Hempstead Highway and Parking Departments. The Port Washington BID is extremely grateful to Supervisor Bosworth and Councilwoman Dalimonte for supporting this program, especially this year.”
Residents are greeted by more flowers at the LIRR Station. This beautification project, while sponsored by the Port Washington BID, is a standout display due to efforts of S. F. Falconer who designs and plants the four raised beds at the parking lot. Town of North Hempstead Parking Department Regular keep up a regular schedule of watering and care.
The Port Washington BID welcomes the community to return to Main Street, Port Boulevard and throughout the shopping district to enjoy the flowers and safely continue the support of local businesses.
